"My name is Alexey, and I come from Belarus. In 2020, like thousands of others, I took to the streets to protest against injustice, electoral fraud, and police violence. We were asking for something simple — freedom, dignity, and the right to choose our leaders.
Instead, we were met with brutality. Peaceful protesters were detained, beaten, and silenced. Freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly, and the rule of law — core values of the European Union — were violated every single day.
Speaking out became dangerous. I was forced to leave my country, not because I wanted to, but because I had to.
Now, through this project, I am learning to tell my story not with fear, but with strength. Sharing what happened in Belarus is not just my personal healing — it’s a way to raise awareness and protect democratic values everywhere.
The EU stands for human rights, democracy, and justice. These are not just abstract principles — they are lifelines for people like me.
By giving refugees a voice, this project empowers us to stand up for these values, no matter where we come from".
