Refugee entrepreneurs are vital contributors to Lithuania's economy and social integration, yet they face a web of challenges. Our new Ā«Needs Assessment ReportĀ» as part of our project: Ā«Bridging the Financial Gap: Enhancing Access to Financial Support for Refugee Entrepreneurs in LithuaniaĀ» unveils the barriers they encounter and proposes tailored solutions to create a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
š Key Challenges Identified:
1ļøā£ Financial Barriers:
- Refugees struggle to access traditional loans due to insufficient collateral and limited credit histories.
2ļøā£ Language and Accessibility Issues:
- Most of resources are available only in Lithuanian, posing significant hurdles for refugees with limited language proficiency.
3ļøā£ Lack of Training and Mentorship:
- Refugees often lack knowledge in taxation, grant writing and digital tools.
- Limited access to mentors and business networks leaves them without critical guidance.
4ļøā£ Bureaucratic and Administrative Hurdles:
- Complex processes for business registration, grant applications, and legal compliance add more stress.
- Vague grant selection criteria discourage refugee entrepreneurship.
5ļøā£ Equity Gaps:
- Some refugees report receiving less support compared to other groups.
- Refugees in rural areas face reduced access to services and networking opportunities.
š Recommendations for Change:
ā Improve Financial Access:
- Introduce non-collateral-based loans and microloans.
- Simplify and streamline grant applications with transparent criteria.
ā Enhance Language Support:
- Translate key resources into languages that refugees speak.
- Offer business-specific language courses to help refugees navigate complex systems.
ā Targeted Training & Mentorship:

- Launch mentorship programs pairing refugees with local business leaders.
ā Simplify Administrative Processes:
- Create centralized platforms for one-stop access to services and resources.
- Reduce bureaucratic hurdles for business registration and compliance.
